Seven guys came to Charlie Vettiner and played 18 holes

•September 23, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The weather predicted Louisville get raining 50 percent, but 7 people decided to come together brave. We made it all 18 holes and it wasn’t that bad. The course were in pretty good condition. Only few areas were muddy and the last group made through 2 holes with thundering (probably 3 or 4 times).

Two guys made it interesting. Bob Verkamp made his first par on par 3 which is very good for first timer at Charlie Vettiner. Congrats to Bob. The second one was on the 12th hole. Brian Timberlake shot holed in around 100 yards to the hole and two witnesses saw my ball in. It was beautiful drive. I used pitching wedge and got the right form. When I saw it straight and I said, “Go, go, go”. Then I didn’t see the ball went in until Todd and Derrick put their arms up. That’s when I knew it went in. This is my second time that had done it. One was in Florida when our family went on vacation. It was in Destin, Florida. I played on Emerald Bay Golf course and their greens were smaller than Charlie Vettiner. On hole 11 and was my third shot on 60 yards mark, I swinged with my pitching wedge and holed in. Two partners witnessed it. It was amazing feeling when you holed in from 50 yards or more. I normally get that from the fringe near the greens few times, but not more than 50 yards or more. I learned a lot how correct form and grip can do for your game.

The score will be posted when I get a chance to enter the scores. I want to thank everyone who participate in deaf golf league. We hope to play again next year and more golfers to join with us. If you know anyone who wants to join, please let them know we have a league.

Tiger Woods is definitely the best player in any sport

•August 4, 2009 • Leave a Comment

After missing the cut, Tiger Woods bounced back to win Buick Open which most critics didn’t think he’ll win. He made the critics to pay the price by keeping their mouth shut. When I see Tiger Woods, I still remember back in the Mike Douglas Show that Tiger Woods displayed his golf swing and shocked Bob Hope by seeing that swing. Most people didn’t realized Tiger started his first swing when he was 9 months old. Imagine? No wonder he’s the best in the world.

When Tiger didn’t play well in British Open, I’m sure he’s mad at himself for not figuring it out his swing. But at the same time, he’s Tiger Woods. He can bounce back anytime he wants to because he is super human. What I mean is he swings mechanically (becomes habitual) without thinking too much like we do.

He grew up in respect and discipline. His father, Earl Woods, was a Green Beret and served 2 full tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He wrote a book called “Training a Tiger and Playing Through: Straight Talk on Hard Work, Big Dreams and Adventures with Tiger”. He didn’t believe that criticizing kids at an early age on sports were good idea. Let kids be kids. I like that attitude of Earl Woods. His mother, Matilda “Tida”, made Tiger finish school first or no golf. The parents must display their attitude to all their kids because it will keep them in the right direction. Actually, God will lead them to the right direction.

Five people played at Iroquois Golf on Sunday afternoon

•July 29, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Five people came and played at Iroquois Golf course on Sunday afternoon. It was nice weather, not too hot and not too cold. Three people came to play at the tee times and the other 2 arrived later. But all in all, everyone seems to have a good time.

After we played golf, we went to eat at KFC for supper and chatted about everything. Steve, TJ and I saw Darrell Griffith and his wife coming in to order KFC. I’ve seen him twice, but Steve and TJ said “so what?”. No wonder they were die hard UK fans and didn’t care for any UL players or team. What a shame. LOL

The goal for this league is to have fun and fellowship. Next month, I plan to email you all soon about a tournament we will be playing. Hopefully, everyone will come. See you all next blog.

Our next golf outing on July 26

•July 23, 2009 • 2 Comments

Hello everyone,

It’s been while to write up a blog for golf league. I have been busy taking off out of town for couple of weeks in June. Plus my wife and I took Fireproof Bible study on Thursday evenings. Now I am back and take up another outing which is on Sunday, July 26. We will meet at Long Run golf course starting at 1:30 PM tee times. Some of you aren’t sure how the weather turns out.

It reminded me several years ago when my family and I decided to go to Holiday World. My mother wasn’t sure she goes with us at the time due to weather. I told her to have faith in God. Well, that morning she said okay. She’ll go with us even though the weather was expecting raining all day. Then my mother rode with us and she told us that there’s forecast it will rain. I told her to have faith. When we arrive closer to Santa Claus, we saw a glimpse of sunny out there. I kept telling her to have faith. Well, it turned out there was not a drop all day until the park was closed. My mother said she’s glad she went with us that day. Faith does remarkable when we trust God in everything we do.

I am going to say it again. Have faith in God. If it rains, so be it. We can still meet together and maybe playing golf indoor if available.

Seven people played Crescent Hill

Few days ago, the weather predicted raining / thunderstorm on Thursday evening. As I checked in Thursday morning’s weather, it seemed to shift to partly cloudy instead of raining and thunderstorm. Seven people decided to go ahead and played together at Crescent Hill. It is my first time playing on that course, and it is very interesting course. Lots of downhill and uphill. It was tough to figure out where to aim the fairway. Only person got on green at hole #8 was Roger Tucker. He used iron 5 to get on. Normally, I used iron 9 for 120 yards, and what’s more it is uphill so I use iron 8. It came up short. Oh, well. Congrats, Roger.

I wanted to welcome newcomer, Chris Bobay and Jeff Smith which I haven’t had the chance to welcome him first time we started this league.

Chris Bobay – 41
Brian Timberlake – 45
Jeff Cecil – 45
Todd Stinson – 49
Roger Tucker – 49
Bobby Armstrong – 50
Steve Dye – 52

Our Next Outing – Crescent Hill

•May 12, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Our next outing will be at Crescent Hill this Thursday, May 14 after 5:30 PM. This is my first time playing there so I don’t know what this course will do to us. Will their greens fast? Does they have lot of dogleg fairways? Will the fairways uphill or downhill? Most pros do practice on courses before the tournament begins. They are exploring the golf course and what it looks like before playing there.

Since SEDGA tournament is around the corner, I hope that enough practices will help polish my skills to go lower flights. My lowest flight is second flight when I played SEDGA 2007 on Willow Creek Golf Course in Knoxville, TN. The fairways were nice and easy to hit. The greens were pretty tricky.

Five people played on April 16

On Thursday evening, five people showed up and played 9 holes at Shawnee. The weather was nice and little cool later in the night. We started off with two people, Jeff and myself and the group after us were Steve, Derrick and Roger. Here is the score for that evening.

Brian – 46
Jeff – 47
Steve – 47
Derrick – 51
Roger – 51

At ninth hole, I watched Derrick who got birdie. He jumped and pumped like Tiger. What’s more! He putted downhill which looked like he had no chance to achieve, but he did it. That’s why he’s pumped. Congrats on his birdie attempt.

Look out for our next outing which is on April 30th. By the way, if you know someone who wants to play with us. You can invite them and let me know who is coming.

Practicing Putting

Yesterday, my son and I putted back and forth to keep up our skills. I looked at my son trying to find his right stroke and I helped him find the stroke. He started to improve each time showed him. Like the saying goes, practice makes perfect. Are we getting perfect strokes? Probably not. It takes a while to make it perfect. Looks like we will never be.

I am looking forward to play golf this Thursday and I hear that it is going to be high 60s degrees temperature. Hope we all can play golf together and share our laughs. This is one of the stress-free time for me. I don’t know about you.

Deaf Golf League – April 16

Next deaf golf outing will be at Shawnee Golf course. We will start at 5:45 PM. Most of the holes are flat and open. Easy to walk if you are saving money. My suggestion is to buy or rent pulling/pushing cart. Let me know who is going or not by click “Count Me In” webpage.
